Apple’s Revised iMac Line – Now up to 3.06Ghz

April 29, 2008

Apple released a speed bump to the ever popular iMac line of computers, with a top speed of 3.06Ghz in the monster 24″ model. A very cool new feature, found only on the 24 incher is an nVidia 8800GS.

Finally a consumer mac with some gaming muscle.

Just an excerpt

April 29, 2008

I am doing a project in english at school based on social varieties of english. The subject I am doing it on is IT, naturally. Anyway I’ll keep this short.

I think I stumbled upon the most complicated and intelligent sounding sentence I have ever written:

“…Intonation depends largely on  locality but is usually monotonal due to adequate inference through description…”

I’m pretty impressed by it.

I Upgraded My Mac Mini

April 29, 2008

I bought a brand new Mac Mini from the excellent My Mac Austraila on Flinders St a few weeks ago and recently decided to upgrade it.

The base model I bought cost $850 and came with a Core 2 Duo processor running at 1.83Ghz. I’m happy with that speed. What I wasn’t so impressed by was the paltry hard drive space and memory; just 80GB and 1GB, respectively.

I decided that, to get the best performance and usability out of my new computer, I would need to do some more buying. So I went down to the local MSY and grabbed 2x 1GB sticks of Corsair notebook RAM and a WD 160GB 5400 RPM hard drive.

Upon getting home with my new components, I backed up all my stuff and began the disassembly of my computer. I won’t go too deep here about how to do it but if you’re interested, Apple Fritter has a great guide.

Everything went really well and now I have a pretty much maxxed out Mini. I would love to upgrade the processor but at this time, funds won’t allow it.

One thing I would like to point out is that, regardless of what Apple says, the Mini can take 4GB of RAM, although it can only address 3GB. I considered going this route instead of just 2GB, but in the end, I think 2GB will suffice.

Pretty generic picture, I know.
